Refugees

‘ A refugee is someone who can survive and who can create the future’- Amela Koluder

Background

In Cisarua Bogor, Indonesia, there are approximately 4,000 refugees who have been FORCED to leave their country to escape war and ensure the safety of their lives and hope for their children. They are currently under the protection of the UNHCR ( UN Refugee Agency) which has allowed them to stay in Indonesia indefinitely. Although there are other organizations that helped support their basic needs - during the pandemic - the amount of money they received was minimal. It is really heartbreaking to realize that the refugees have no access to basic human rights. While living in Indonesia, they are not allowed to work, and more critically, their children have no access to formal education.

How do they survive:

If these refugees have no access to basic human rights and are financially unequipped,  how do they survive?
Some refugees are fortunate to have a little bit of support from their relatives in their home countries. However, those who do not have support from their relatives, do not have a home. They are on their own. What they do is that they camp outside detention centers, and rely on hope to have some food to feed their family before they get sick.

Why do we need to help them?

In the midst of this pandemic, the refugees are no longer able to receive support from their families overseas. They are facing a financial crisis and have no way to protect themselves against COVID-19. Thus, ONEWORLD truly believes that it depends on all of us to make a difference in their lives.

OUR PROJECTS!

‘Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.' - Roy T.B

Through the generosity of friends and family, ONEWORLD has been able to donate 1000 masks; 500 masks to the Hope Learning Center and Refugee Learning Nest in Cisarua.

In addition, we have distributed 100 liters worth of homemade hand-sanitizer to both of the refugee learning centers in Cisarua. We have also conducted a virtual DIY Hand-Sanitizer Workshop with the refugees in Cisarua to teach them how to make basic sanitizer and of course, interact with them to ignite social closeness!
